| Samenvatting | Diese Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit der Frage nach einer situationsrelativen Informations-rezeption im Information Retrieval im Allgemeinen und bei der Suche in der deutsch-sprachigen Wikipedia im Speziellen. Motiviert wurde das Forschungsdesiderat vor allem durch die schnell ansteigenden Datenmengen und die damit verbundenen Selek-tionsschwierigkeiten durch den Nutzer sowie weiter durch die Informationssuche als Beschäftigung des alltäglichen Lebens.
Die Arbeit ist dabei in zwei Teile untergliedert. Im theoretischen Teil werden zunächst die Komplexität der möglichen Suchsituationen und der Einfluss subjektiver Kompo-nenten auf die Bewertung von Informationen besprochen. Auf dieser Basis wurde an-schließend das situationsabhängige Suchverhalten in der deutschsprachigen Wikipedia untersucht.
In zwei unabhängigen Studien kamen ergänzend explizite (Fragebögen) und implizite (Eyetracking) Methoden zum Einsatz, die ermöglichten, die subjektiven Bewertungen der Inhalte durch den Nutzer zu protokollieren. In beiden Studien konnte gezeigt wer-den, dass die Suchsituation, hier vor allem im Sinne des Grads der Definiertheit und der Endlichkeit des Suchziels, sowohl Suchstrategie und Informationsrezeption beein-flussen, als auch die Wünsche der Suchenden nach bestimmten Inhaltsstrukturen. Wei-ter bestätigten die Untersuchungen, dass die Zufriedenheit der Nutzer nicht nur von einem inhaltlichen Sucherfolg abhängt, sondern auch stark mit einer jeweils angemes-senen Informationspräsentation korreliert. In Zusammenfassung der eigenen Studien und der Ergebnisse, die der aktuellen Forschungsliteratur entnommen wurden, kam diese Arbeit zu dem Schluss, dass die Situation des Nutzers, bestehend aus einer Viel-zahl an Komponenten, an verschiedenen Stellen einen messbaren Einfluss auf die In-formationsrezeption des Nutzers beim Information Retrieval in der deutschsprachigen Wikipedia hat.

This doctoral thesis contributes to an understanding of situational perception of infor-mation in the Information Retrieval Process in general and in particular searching German Wikipedia. This study advances former research which showed that due to the increasing amount of available digital information in the World Wide Web, the distinct evaluation of search results still leaves a tremendous amount of workload for the user to select currently relevant information.
The research of this thesis uses two approaches: In a theoretical approach the complex-ness of information seeking tasks and the different situations in which search tasks are occurring are pictured as well as the possible influences of these situations on how us-ers assign relevance to information. Based on those findings the situational meaning of information when the German Wikipedia is searched was investigated with two empir-ical studies.
For a better insight of the information seeking behavior depending on the user’s par-ticular task, different methods for explicit (questionnaires) and implicit (eye tracking) feedback were used. Both studies indicated that the search task influences information seeking behavior and the most preferred content elements. Especially the degree of precision and finiteness of a search goal determines information seeking strategies, which also - using the user actions as a feature – can be distinguished automatically. Along with that the results suggest that an appropriate manner of the information presentation matters as much as the success with regard to the content of a search. This work also describes all individual parameters which play a role for the user’s individu-al and situational information perception.
With respect to the theoretical and the empirical analyses the results of this thesis indi-cate that the information seeking process for searching German Wikipedia is partially strongly influenced by the user’s context.
